RENCONTRES PANCANADIENNES DU CINÉMA ÉTUDIANT (RPCE)

PAN-CANADIAN STUDENT FILM MEETINGS

HISTORY AND MISSIONS

Since 2014, the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) has pursued its commitment to support emerging cinema and make it accessible with the Rencontres pancanadiennes du cinéma étudiant (RPCE). This national student short-film competition offers representatives of each school the opportunity to meet up and exchange ideas through a program of workshops, conferences and networking activities that build strong ties with the industry. The RPCE is designed not only as a platform for reflection and discussion, but just like the Festival, as a festive, friendly space for discovery!

This year, 16 Canadian schools, including INIS, the host of the event, and one international university are participating. We are proud to welcome The School of Film and Television (ECYTV) from the National University of Colombia. ECYTV is the country’s oldest film school. Founded in 1988, its focus is the practice, teaching and research of the audiovisual language.

The RPCE in a nutshell:

- A competition: Short films are chosen by the same selection committee as for the prestigious short film competition at the FNC. Each of the schools is represented by a film during a screening with the filmmakers in attendance. A jury will award the best student short film at the FNC and RPCE Short Film Awards.

- A wide range of activities and meetings: Interactive workshops, cinema classes, master classes and networking opportunities are organized to facilitate formal and informal discussions between students and school representatives.All participants have unlimited access to the festival’s screenings and activities and are included in the activities reserved for short-film directors competing at the FNC.

- An opportunity to broaden international perspectives: In each edition, the RPCE encourages and stimulates discussions and meetings by inviting a prestigious international film school to shed light on the challenges of world film production.
