OPENING FILM

Guest of Honour by Atom Egoyan will be the opening film of the 48th edition.

CLOSING FEATURE

CHAAKAPESH by Roger Frappier and Justin Kingsley will be the closing feature of the 48th edition. The documentary is following Kent Nagano and the musicians of OSM in the creation of the indigenous opera Chaakapesh.

TRIBUTE TO FORCIER

This year André Forcier will receive the Louve d'honneur. His latest film LES FLEURS OUBLIÉES will be screened as well as a brand new restoration of L'EAU CHAUDE L'EAU FRETTE (1976). There will be an Evening Tribute to Forcier Wednesday Oct. 16 at the FNC's Headquarter.

NATIONAL FEATURES THAT WE ARE WAITING FOR

FNC is proud to unveiled some features that will represent the diversity of the canadian cinema in its 48th lineup :

  • Antigone by Sophie Deraspe. In its 5th feature, the director propose an actual interpretation of the myth, a story of racial profiling in Montreal city.
  • L.A. Tea Time by Bédard Marcotte. A road movie with its own identity, a sensitive proposition made of frank realism, with the sense of humour of Claire l’hiver and the voice of Chantal Akerman in the middle of the desert.
  • L’Acrobate by Rodrigue Jean. Whit this 6th piece of work, the director continue to offer us a cinema of its singular style ; bold and soak of mystery.
  • Cranks by McKenna. 
After Le Cœur de madame Sabali the director propose a photo book of people from the isolated and peaceful Winnipeg.
  • Les Fleurs oubliées by André Forcier. An environmentalist fairytale with Roy Dupuis, Yves Jacques, Christine Beaulieu, Juliette Gosselin, Émile Schneider and Mylène Mackay.

INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL BIG-NAMES AT FNC

As usual FNC offers to Montrealers the opportunity to see on big screen the last work of big-names of actual cinema. Here some important features applaused in the biggest international film festivals :

  • Varda par Agnès by Agnès Varda (France). This documentary will be a Premiere in Quebec and was screened at Berlinale.
  • Douleur et gloire by Pedro Almodovar (Spain) presented in the official sélection at Festival de Cannes and winner of the Best Actor Award for Antonio Banderas.
  • Sorry We Missed You by Ken Loach (United Kindom) official selection of Festival de Cannes.
  • Zombi Child by Bertrand Bonello (France) presented at Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.
  • Synonymes by Nadav Lapid (France - Israel), winner of the Ours d’or.
  • Le Daim by Quentin Dupieux (France) presented at Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.

  

 

A New Award

FIPRESCI – the International Federation of Film Critics – will present the prestigious International Critics Prize to a first feature from any section screened. This award is intended to encourage young filmmakers in their art. The arrival of the prize is a testament to the FNC’s quality programming and boosts its well-earned status as an unmissable event for both industry and audiences.

Created by FIPRESCI for the first Cannes Festival in 1946, the International Critics Prize is now presented at major international festivals including Venice and Berlin as well as at Cannes. In Canada, the International Critics Prize for best feature is also presented at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

 

Anticipated First Films

True to its reputation for discovering new talent, the Festival will screen a number of anticipated first films that stood out on the international festival circuit throughout the year  :

  • The Body Remembers When The World Broke Open, a canadian film by Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers et Kathleen Hepburn  shown at the Berlin International Film Festival ;
  • Quebec premiere Black Conflux, a psychological drama by  Nicole Dorsey ;
  • The Twentieth Century, Matthew Rankin’s debut feature starring Dan Beirne, Catherine St-Laurent, Sarianne Cormier, Mikhail Ahooja & Brent Skagford ;
  • Canción Sin Nombre (Peru) by Melina León, screened at the Directors Fortnight ;
  • Mickey and the Bear (USA) by Annabelle Attanasio  presented at Cannes this year as well in the ACID programme ;
  • Aren’t You Happy? (Germany) by Susanne Heinrich, screened at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
